My baby starts High School

And so today Rebecca is off to her first day at High School.  I have to say I hate school.  what an outdated, superficial, jungle it is.  Of course Im not letting Rebecca know that as she steps forth into what is the next phase of her life.  One can only hope that they are ready for it.  Years 7 to 9 can be shockers for some.  Some of us are rearing our children to be kind, caring, thoughtful individuals whom we know have to work their way through the masses of undisciplined, spoilt, neglected kids that they meet along the way.  So whilst it is easy to say to them "Be nice" "support someone who you see is having a hard time" "be true to yourself"  it is difficult to get the balance right.  This mornings gem from me to Rebecca (and I am sorry to admit this) was "if someone is having a hard time, step back for a minute and make a decision as to whether or not you want to help them, consider the consequences for yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!how terrible to say that........however that is what we have learnt about high school so far.  Unfortunately it is a bit like every man(or woman) for themselves.  Rebecca I know will be fine.  She is an independent, strong, thoughtful young woman with high morals and very definates on what is right and what is wrong.  She has a great capacitiy to be herself and to laugh and enjoy.  Here's hoping her high school experiences will all be positive ones.  Here's knowing that they wont.  Years 7, 8, 9 are pretty often pretty crappy for lots of kids.  Years 10, 11 and finally 12 settle somewhat and permission to be oneself is often granted.  Good luck Rebecca, we are here to listen to it all and how lucky are you to have that, those that dont have it are often the ones we are hearing about for the next few years, BOTHER.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
